Coaches are key to the development and progression of all sections of the Club. To that end, we are lucky to have a fantastic group of dedicated coaches to provide top-notch sessions to all.

Our head coach is John Fry. John is an ECB Level 3 coach who has extensive experience of both playing and coaching at the top level. He was the first player to score 10,000 runs in the Surrey Championship, a feat he achieved whilst playing for Sutton.

Sam Schofield is also a Level 3 coach, who has come through the Sutton CC Colts system himself. His dynamic approach to the game is reflected in his coaching work – under his guidance the U16s came third in the Nation T20 competition.

Pete Edwards is a Level 2 coach who has been at the Club for over 30 years. He has played for the 1st XI before and now coaches full time whilst still serving the Club in many ways. He has also seen his son grow from being a colt to the 1st team captain this year!

Sam Clarkson is another Level 2 coach who has been at the club since he first picked up a bat. A genuine all rounder and athletic fielder, he’s a fantastic coach for enthusiastic colts.

Sam Woods is also a Level 2 coach, who (like all the Sam’s) has been at the Club since he was a colt. This year, he is the 2nd XI Captain following a break from 1st XI cricket last season. A technically gifted batsman and leg break bowler Sam offers excellent advice with regards to spin bowling.

Dan Edwards is the new 1st XI Captain. He is also a wicketkeeper and will be bringing his skills to the coaching table this year. As well as his skills behind the stumps, he is a hard-hitting batsman who has been honing his skills down in New Zealand over the winter… an exciting summer awaits!
