Scoring Courses 2020 – Scorers Count!
The cricket season is fast approaching and Surrey ACO (Association of Cricket Officials) is running a number of scoring courses in Surrey! If you’re looking for a scorer, have members who want to learn, or you simply want to brush up those essential skills, then these are the events for you.
We run a number of courses across February, March and April, tailored for different levels of ambition and previous experience:
Introduction to Scoring
The aim of this course is to provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to record a cricket match. It won’t teach you everything you need to know, but it will give you the tools and confidence to get started. Cost is £5.
Topics covered include:
- Completing a scoring record;
- Recognising, and responding to, umpires’ signals; and
- Standard scoring symbols.
We are running the following confirmed courses in 2020 (all timings 17:30 – 22:00):
- East Molesey, 13 February
- Valley End, 20 February
- Spencer, 12 March (with a special focus on the Play-Cricket Scorer phone app)
- Frensham, 17 March
- Wimbledon, 22 April
Club Scorer is the course for anyone wanting to score on a regular basis and is the only one to comprehensively teach you how to score. This course is suitable for complete beginners and existing scorers who want to improve their skills.
We are running a course at Ashtead on 29 February and 7 March, 10:00 – 17:00. Cost is £30, which includes a year’s membership to ECB ACO, all the course handouts and resources and a rucksack full of handy equipment.
We are also running a Recreational Scorer Level 2 course for the more experienced scorer (at Sutton, 10:00 – 17:00, 21 March), as well as CPD modules in Linear Scoring and Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (at Ashtead, 10:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00), 23 February.
