Welcome to Sutton Cricket Club

With a rich history tracing back to 1857, Sutton Cricket Club stands out as one of the top clubs in Surrey.

The Club has two well-maintained grounds: the main ground at Gander Green Lane, Sutton, (SM12EH), where the 1st and 2nd Saturday league XIs play; and the second ground at Holmwood Close, Cheam, (SM27JL), where the 3rd and 4th Saturday league XIs, as well as the Women’s XIs, Youth and junior XIs, and the Sunday XIs, often play.

The Club has a proud record of success in the Surrey Championship, winning it four times since its inception in 1968. The Club has also produced some notable captains, such as Keith Medlycott (ex-Surrey and England), Phil Sampson (ex-Surrey), and Johann Myburgh (ex-Durham & Somerset).

Sutton Cricket Club run four Saturday league sides, with the first three XIs competing in the Surrey Championship, and the fourth XI in the Surrey Downs League. The Club also run a Sunday Friendly XI, an Academy XI in the Surrey Trust League, regular Midweek XIs and a Women’s XI. In addition, we have a thriving junior membership of over 150 youngsters from age four to seventeen years old.

Presently, Surrey County Cricket Club boasts three professional players from Sutton CC: Jamie Smith, Josh Blake, and Conor McKerr. Jamie and Josh contribute to SCCC as wicket-keeper batters, while Conor showcases his talent as a right-arm pace bowler. It’s worth mentioning that both Jamie and Josh began their cricket journeys at Sutton CC as juniors and eventually earned a place in the Club’s 1st XI in the Surrey Championship. The Club wholeheartedly congratulates all three on their achievements and sends them its best wishes for the upcoming 2024 County season.

Josh Blake spoke to Richard Spiller about his cricket journey, the privilege of working with Alec Stewart and professionals like Ben Foakes, and Jamie Smith, the hard yards he’s been putting in, and much more. (June 21, 2023.)
