Special General Meeting (SGM) Motion
Date: 21st October 2024
Time: 20:30
Location: Online
Motion:
The Surrey Championship proposes the following motion for resolution by the Member Clubs at the Special General Meeting:

  1. Dissolution of the Surrey Championship:
That the Member Clubs of the Surrey Championship resolve to dissolve the league upon successful approval of this motion and approval of similar motions by The Surrey Cricket League and The Surrey County League.
  • This motion is based on the core reasons outlined in the prospectus and supporting documents found here: simplification of governance, regionalisation where appropriate; whilst providing competitive, managed recreational cricket for all.
  1. Formation of a New Replacement League:
That the members resolve to establish a new cricket league, hereinafter referred to as the Surrey Cricket Championship, to better serve the interests of players, teams, and stakeholders.
  • The new league will operate under a revised constitution and set of rules to address the evolving needs of the sport and its participants.
  1. Transfer of Assets and Liabilities:
That all assets, funds, intellectual property, and any outstanding liabilities of the Surrey Championship be transferred to the Surrey Cricket Championship.
  • The current Executive Committee will oversee the proper transfer and allocation of these assets under the guidance of the members.
  1. Formation of a Transition Committee:
A Transition Committee shall be formed immediately following the approval of this motion to oversee the establishment of the Surrey Cricket Championship, including finalising the new league’s constitution, scheduling its inaugural meeting, and facilitating a smooth transition.
  • This committee will include representatives from the current Executive Committee, member clubs, and other stakeholders currently involved in the project
  1. Winding Up of the Surrey Championship:
The Executive Committee shall carry out all necessary legal and administrative processes to formally wind up the affairs of the Surrey Championship no later than 31 December 2024, once the new league is fully established

Rationale:

  • To ensure the cricketing structure remains robust, modern, and conducive to greater participation and competition.
  • To address any existing challenges with governance, financial sustainability, or participation levels in the current leagues.

To align the structure of the league with the future vision for cricket development in the county.

Voting Procedure:
In accordance with the constitution of the Surrey Championship, this motion requires a two-thirds majority of votes from eligible voting members present at the meeting for approval.
