One of the best club dinners in recent memory took place on Friday 16th April at the freshly spruced Clubhouse at Cheam Road.
The
President introduced proceedings and then welcomed comedian Don Beech,
who entertained members and guests with his droll approach to
contemporary life.
Club captain Phil
Sampson responded with an outstanding rallying call for the new season.
We were then treated to a rare occurrence at any cricket club’s
dinner. An appearance as Guest Speaker by the current President of the
MCC!
John Barclay
regaled us with wonderful anecdotes of his days as Sussex captain, and
especially, his influence in shaping the great Sir Vivian Richards
career!
Raffle tickets were sold during dinner. They went like hot cakes, raising over £200 for club funds.
The
evening was concluded by the President thanking all those who had
participated in the preparations of the dinner. The President also
expressed his thanks to everyone for creating such a spectacular dinner
and festive ambience. The evening was truly extraordinary!
