Letter from Oz - No.3! (December 20, 2007)

Club stalwart Sam Schofield is spending the English winter in Australia.  Based in Hampton, a few miles outside Melbourne city centre, Sam has somehow cajoled the good folks at Hampton Central CC into believing that over the next 6-months, his presence at their club will enhance not only the club's bar takings but also improve the skill level of at least one of their Grade XIs!  Here's Sam's latest 'Letter from Oz'.

"G'day from a very wet and thunder stormy Moorabbin,

its been a few weeks since my last update so I hope I remember most of what has gone on. Will start with the cricket, we played top of the table Bentleigh Uniting away and they batted first and scored 348-7 in 65 overs! I bowled 5th change and took 4-75 off 15 overs, a low economy rate compared to the other bowlers! The following week we made 280 a/o in reply, I batted at 4 and made 25 before trying to repeat my 6 earlier in the over off the seamer and pulled one just reaching mid on......I was not best pleased as there were still 40+ overs to bat!

The first week of our next game was washed out so this Saturday becomes a 38 over one day game which will be interesting and very much looking forward to it!

Away from cricket I have been working hard......on my tan! No honestly have been working most days trying not to be killed by falling pieces of houses, spiders, geckos and all sorts of stuff kicking off!!!!

We had a good club night out on Saturday at a local pub and was a little worse for wear the next day as the drinking began at 3 (bloody rain!). Plans for Xmas and New Year are in full swing, we may well venture into the city but more likely to stay local and have some sort of alternative Xmas dinner. I will be also going on a little road trip next week with my flat mates to see the other side of Melbourne and go to a wildlife centre and also a part of a beach where penguins can be seen coming in from sea. (
Philip Island....ed!) That should be impressive as Dave seemed to think penguins are human size!

Just remembered that Shane Warne is rumored to be playing some one day games for his club side which is 5 mins away from us in the new year so may well get to see him play!

I think that is all, I hope all is well with everyone and that you’re not too cold! I know I'm not!

Take it easy, Sam.

P.s. to all the
Liverpool fans, get in there Teves you beauty!!!!!!!"
