SCC Other News!

Club stalwart Sam Schofield is spending the English winter in Australia. Based in Hampton, a few miles outside Melbourne city centre, Sam has somehow cajoled the good folks at Hampton Central CC into believing that over the next 6-months, his presence at their club will enhance not only the club's bar takings but also improve the skill level of at least one of their Grade XIs! Here's Sam's first 'Letter from Oz'.

"Hello chaps,

Just about completed my first week in Melbourne, which has treated me well so far. Got into Melbourne around 9.30pm last Tuesday and after an hour of being questioned, and pointless declaration/security checks, a couple of mates took me back to theirs via the City. Staying in a town about 20-30mins outside of the city centre with another pom and an aussie for a while until I move in more permanently with another bloke from the club.

Apart from trying to get over the jet lag I have just been trying to find my bearings in terms of where everything is. Hope to start working soon as that will keep me occupied as the guys I live with have jobs. Had my first practice session on Thursday where I met most of the players and they all were very welcoming. I was told not to sweep or pull the ball until I got used to playing on mats.....needless to say I went for a sweep and edged it onto my chin which left me with a nice cut for everyone to see! Good start!

First hit was on Saturday for the one- day side, 34 overs a side. Got 50 retired, and started off with a wicket maiden. Then the next three overs went for a few (small ground and slogging!!!!) Not a bad start, hope to be in the B grade this week which will prove more challenging I think. Sunday was spent on the beach which was good to just chill out for a while and to make good use of the weather which has been regularily 20-30 degs.

Have not got a clue what I am going to do this week but I am sure I will find something to keep me occupied!
