Club establishes link with Sutton Grammar School for Boys, (SGS.) (April 25, 2007)
As the ‘hub’ of cricket within the community, Sutton Cricket Club has established and developed a mutually beneficial relationship with Sutton Grammar School for Boys, (SGS.)
This week sees the start of that relationship with the introduction of a coaching programme specifically tailored to meet the cricketing needs of the school’s, U13 to U15 age-groups. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of June, Sutton CC’s coaches will work with the students for 90 minutes immediately after school finishes for the day.
The aim of the ‘link’ is for the club to work with SGS in order to support and/or improve the school’s cricket programme; to share resources; to target prospective players’ by providing them with details about the club and the club’s cricket development programme, and subsequently, encourage them to join and play for the club. While the club moved closer to achieving the ‘Clubmark’ accreditation recently awarded, this effective link with SGS had a positive impact on the club’s successful submission for official approval.
Building a viable link between the club and SGS is not only essential to the long term future of the game, but to the lifelong participation by young people in cricket within the community, in addition to providing for a seamless transition between school and the cricket club.
