Bursaries that are available to help offset the cost of the UKCC 1 and 2 courses. (February 24, 2008)
Dear Coach
I am writing to you with details of bursaries that are available to you to help offset the cost of the UKCC 1 and 2 courses you have been selected to attend (some of you may have already attended the courses but will still be eligible). The Learning Skills Council has identified £250k to help subsidise 400 places on UKCC courses (Level 1-3) across all of the sports that now deliver courses under the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate system. They are targeted at coaches working with clubs within London and this covers Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth (all Pro-Active Central London Partnership), Kingston, Croydon, Merton and Sutton (Pro-Active South London Partnership) and if you receive a bursary it entitles you to 66% of the course fee back. I would recommend that all coaches within the London area apply for this and then pass the bursary onto whoever paid for the original course (either individual or club) if successful.
You can apply online by clicking on the link below. It is not a hugely drawn out process so should take too long to complete and the benefits that can be gained are quite big. Part of the funding requires coaches to record 20 hours of coaching on completion of the course so bear this in mind before applying.

Please note that although it states that coaches should be working with the 16+ age group this is likely to be taken off the requirements as Sport Englands priorities have changed recently to focus across all age groups, so I would suggest applying even if you only coach the 16 and under age bracket. Please also note that if the 400 bursaries are allocated before March, funding may be made available for a further 800 bursaries in 2008/9.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards Simon
