Umpiring Courses:
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO CANDIDATE PRE-REQUISITES FOR 2009/10 COACH EDUCATION PROGRAMME.

You may or may not be aware that the ECB sets Surrey Cricket targets on the number of people achieving certification on the UKCC 1 and UKCC 2 courses each year and we are constantly developing new strategies in order to ensure as many people as possible gain their qualification. The strategy below will be employed on all courses moving forward from September 2009. The reason for doing this is because all of the 3 factors below are required before a candidate can complete a course fully and therefore completing them before the course starts means that coaches will gain their qualification much more quickly after completing their assessment:

  • All candidates booking onto a Surrey Cricket Coach Education Course ( UKCC 1 Assistant Coach, UKCC 2 Club Coach or Level 1 to UKCC
  • 2 Conversion Course) will have to have the following 3 elements in place (or progress) before their given course starts.
1. ECB CRB Check (or future equivalent) – Candidate must have met with a Surrey signatory to get a CRB check completed and sent off to TMG CRB at least 4 weeks before the course start date. Surrey Cricket will then check the CRB database to ensure that each candidate has done this prior to the course starting. Surrey Cricket will advertise a number of CRB signing evenings as well as contact details for all of Surrey’s CRB signatories in order to allow each candidate the opportunity to get the form completed in time. Sarah Midwinter will be able to provide guidance on this process, smidwinter@surreycricket.com

2. Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course (SPC) – Candidate must attend a SPC course before the start date of their coach education course. Surrey Cricket will (where possible) run courses at each venue in the lead up to the coach education course starting and a booking on an SPC course that takes place prior to their coach education course will be acceptable. All other courses run by the County Sports Partnerships will also be advertised to the candidates to ensure they can attend a course before their coach education course begins. If a candidate already has attended a course, a photocopy of the certificate of attendance should be enclosed with the course booking form.

3. First Aid Course (1 st Aid) - Candidate must attend a 1 st Aid course before the start date of their coach education course. Surrey Cricket will (where possible) run courses at each venue in the lead up to the coach education course starting and a booking on a 1 st Aid course that takes place prior to their coach education course will be acceptable. All other courses run by the County Sports Partnerships will also be advertised to the candidates to ensure they can attend a course before their coach education course begins. If a candidate already has attended a course, a photocopy of the certificate of attendance should be enclosed with the course booking form.

Information and/or availability for all of the above can also be found at  www.surreycricket.com

Surrey Cricket and ECB also recommends that all candidates sign up for ECB Coaches Association (ECBCA) membership on the course as for £25 per year (direct debit) or £29 (cheque) there are a huge number of member benefits such as insurance, regular newsletters and technical bulletins and access to subsidised kit and clothing. It is also a Clubmark requirement that all coaches at a Clubmark club have ECBCA membership. Signing up on course also provides you with insurance for your supported practice as a UKCC 2 candidate coach. Simply complete the form in your resource pack and give it to your tutor on the course.
