Club members, Gareth Lambe, Ian Jack and Mike Bryant, performed brilliantly on Sunday (22nd April,) to complete the London Marathon in fantastic times.
Gareth in 3hrs 34 minutes; Ian in 4hrs 23 minutes. In addition to this marvellous achievement, both Gareth and Ian surpassed their individual fundraising aims. (See below.) Donations are still coming in....and more is welcome!

All 'athletes' enjoyed a fantastic experience and the crowds were something they'll never forget. Unable to catch a comment from the boys at the finishing tape, your editor finally 'caught them' in the bar at Cheam Rd! Gareth found the going quite intense, "at least the first 15 miles or so were enjoyable!! It was also the hardest thing by far I have gone through physically and I think it will take my legs at least a week to recover." (No excuses. You're skipper at Bickley Park on Saturday, remember - Ed.)
Gareth plans to run the New York and London next year, where his ambition is to complete one of them in under 3 hours! Thereby, he concluded, "being able to hang up the runners for good with ambition achieved!"
The heat of the day must have got to Ian, who magnanimously, believes he was less impressive with his time! Ian, yours is a tremendous achievement and one that thousands and thousands, ney, millions, can only dream of! Well done! Although not immediatley thinking of running next year, Ian will consider all legal forms of bribery to convince him to tackle the gruelling course again! (Easy for me to suggest - Ed.)
Hon. Member, Mike Bryant, completed his run in 4 hours 25 minutes. A fantastic effort for someone in their mid-sixties.
Congratulations to you all. "A marathon effort, that," as Richie might say! |
