Sutton CC 'Surrey Trust' 2007 Season Report.

This season turned out to be a fairly successful year with the team just falling short of reaching the finals. However, on route we did uncover some very promising young cricketers.

Our "old hands" for the year were Gareth Lambe, Sam Seadon, David Mitchell and others who played a vital role in passing on knowledge and setting a good example to the youngsters. Some of our young cricketers who deserve a special mention are:
Sam W with Arunath at Beddington CC.
Sam & Arun at Beddo!
  • Josh Allen, who performed consistently well;
  • "Housewives favourite," Spencer Champ improved the "Hunk Factor" in the side;
  • Keval Patel proved himself to be a youngster who not only has the talent but also the bravery required at the top of the order;
  • Daniel Edwardsgot better and better behind the stumps with every game; and lastly,

Sam Woods, our player of the season, who has no doubt got a very good future ahead of him. Sam played superbly throughout the season bowling all varieties of leg spin known to man and also showed he could bat lower down the order.

Altogether an enjoyable season and hopefully we'll hit greater heights next year.

The Surrey Trust League

The Surrey Trust League, (6 players to be U21, 4 of whom should be U18,) has grown organically over the past 5 seasons, going from 5 to 16, 22, 32, and now 34 clubs in season 2007.  This explosion of interest has led to the formation of the Trust Development League which is the second tier and allows the next group of colts to enter the League. This has generated another 9 teams (8 as Second XI’s from established Trust League Clubs and 1 putting their only team in at this level).

Note:

The Surrey Trust Development League operates to the same rules as the Surrey Trust League except that 6 players are to be U18 of which 4 players are to be U16.

In this way clubs of all standards can enter teams or judge the strength of their potential team year by year, and play at their preferred level.

Finals Day 2007
