An enjoyable season despite the awful weather, with the records showing that our U12’s lost a close play off final to Old Whits and our U9’s losing to a strong Spencer side in a play off semi final. Our all-conquering U8’s won the excellent Beddington festival in a tense final against Wimbledon. The season was rounded off by the presentation of our Clubman of the Year awards by club captain Keith Medlycott.
All age groups improved as the season progressed despite rarely being at full strength. It is a fact of cricketing life that colts’ cricket is down the pecking order behind county, district and school commitments and in many ways Sutton is a victim of its own success with numerous boys quite rightly moving up the ladder to play better quality junior and senior cricket. With this in mind, and with some regret, we have not entered a side in this year’s NEC U15’s league. The majority of our U15 squad will play Trust/Development and senior cricket on a Sunday afternoon, which we feel will benefit their cricket enormously.
Outside colts cricket many of the boys recorded maiden senior fifties, took 4 and 5 wicket hauls, excelled in the field and were regular members of good quality senior sides. This is very pleasing to report as the main objective of Sutton’s colts’ section is to produce good quality cricketers for the future
