Dulwich Take Saturday's Honours!
The 1st XI's visit to Dulwich this Saturday for the first Championship fixture of the season left all involved well and truly depressed. Playing under the new 50-over rules, nothing went right for the Popinjays from the start, aside from winning the toss! We eventually reached 162 all out off 45 overs before watching the Dulwich openers carry their bats to a well-deserved 10-wicket victory. Nothing more to say, other than, food for thought!
In their 2nd XI Premiership opener, the 2s, at Cheam Road against the Dulwich club's 2s, had chances to take the spoils; however, they met with stubborn late order defence and could only manage the losing draw. The 3rds, in their Premiership opener, went one better and secured a winning draw at Holmwood Close against Normandy. Not bad, considering that, batting first, we were at one stage 33 for 5 before Pete Edwards (78,) and Chris Moore, (49,) steadied the ship!
Meanwhile, in the Surrey Cricket League 2nd Division, the 4ths secured their second win from two, beating Park Hill CC in Ewell. Sadly, the 5ths were unable to repeat last week's win against Bec Old Boys this time played at Mollison Drive.

Laws of the Game: MCC to come down hard on composite bats!
"While we do not want to discourage innovation, we want to ensure bat manufacturers make bats made of willow and bat handles of cane, rubber and glue. That's the rationale behind it, so that in 10 to 15 years, we still look at a game that resembles what we watch now. That's our job - to safeguard the health of the game."…….more here.
