Where Did Those 3 Months Go?Posted on Saturday Jan 24 0:00:00 GMT 2009 Tomorrow week, (1st February) we begin pre-season training at Epsom College (ALL PLAYERS WELCOME) so for those of you who have a tingling in your jock strap in anticipation of the semi-imminent 2009 season, I thought an update on what's been going on would be appropriate.
Contrary to popular belief, I have not only been watching football for the past three months (I have watched some) as various admin issues and fixture arranging have needed resolving.
I am reasonably pleased with the fixtures for 2009, especially the Sunday 2nd, 3rd and Midweek teams matches. There is still a little tinkering to do but, apart from the Sat 5ths league dates, we are pretty much there.
We have continued to expand our midweek cricket in 2009 as well.
We open up with a Trust XI type friendly at Sunbury (which Phil Sampson has kindly agreed to skipper) on Sunday 12th April and the following day, Easter Monday, the Sunday 2nds have a game v Old Suttonians at Cheam Road, a bit of a dummy run for the main square which is looking far better than in 2008 already! Incidentally, we hope that all the changes at Cheam Road will be appreciated by everyone!
We have the Surrey Championship AGM this Monday where new regulations for our Saturday 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams should be put in place. More on this soon.
Grant Kuiler has agreed to skipper our Sunday 1st XI in 2009 and we hope to put up a good showing in the Fullers Griffin Sunday League as well as the friendly matches under his leadership. Of course, all 2009 captaincy issues will need to be ratified at the AGM!
Zoheb Sharif has agreed to join us from Dulwich for this season and we look to have acquired the services of Greg Betz from St Lawrence (Kent) CC. Craig Jones (Birmingham League) and Richard Williams (4 years of grade cricket down under in Sydney) will be netting with us as well.
Definitely through the "out" door is Qadeer Giul who has re-joined Purley CC. I am sure we wish the popular Qaddy all the best back at The Ridge.
I am not the only person who has a feeling of optimism for the new season and, quite frankly, I expect us to make a bit of a show with all our Saturday league teams!
Anyway, thats all for now. Pop in from time to time to see more of what is happening at Blighty!
