Ten make academy cut! (November 12, 2007)
Sutton's Muhunthan Harinath and Weybridge's Zafar Ansari are among the 10-strong Pemberton Greenish Surrey CCC Academy for this year.
Tiffin School's Harinath and Hampton School's Ansari make the grade for the second season in succession as academy director Gareth Townsend cuts his squad from 14 members in a bid to raise standards.
Harinath will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Sutton batsman and brother 20-year-old Arun, who signed a professional contract with the Brit Oval club in the summer.
Ten players in five years have graduated to the senior Surrey ranks from the academy, including Jade Dernbach, Rory Hamilton-Brown and more recently Stuart Meaker.
Townsend said: "This has been a pleasing year, capped by the news Stuart had earned a contract with Surrey's professional staff for 2008.
"Being a part of the Pemberton Greenish Surrey Academy is an honour and I want the players to realise this."
Full squad: Tom Winslade (Whitgift School and Weybridge CC), Tom Jewell (Bradfield College), Daniel Newton (KCS Wimbledon and Banstead CC), Tom Lancefield (Ealing College and Banstead CC), Muhunthan Harinath (Tiffins School and Sutton CC), Zafar Ansari (Hampton and Weybridge CC), Navid Chaudhry (Whitgift School and Purley CC), Matthew Dunn (Bearwood College and Egham CC), Ebony Rainford Brent (Shepperton CC), Anna Stevenson (Esher College and Shepperton CC).
